Custom Built Lightsabers
Conversion of a Korbanth DV6 hilt with a FULL length, FULLY removable G-Core
BUILD LOG: "Skeleton"
For such an iconic character, I wanted to create an equally iconic saber chassis. I decided on building a full metal, one piece version of my G-Core that is completely removable from the saber's outer body. This project is titled "Skeleton" because the G-Core will be cut out like a skeletonized weapon, and the name also references how Vader himself is a skeleton of both man and machine. Here is a basic sketch of my ideas to begin
It all starts with a 6061 aluminum tube, which I lathe down to section off the rear power cell area, a central bulkhead for the crystal chamber feature, and the forward section for optics/LED/blade holder. The most time consuming aspect was lathing this tube down so that it fit snugly within the Korbanth saber body without rattling, but loose enough to slide out when gently pushed. The Korbanth body also isn't 100% concentric.
The final shot of this challenging and fun build. I did not have plans to ever build a second one like this, first of all because the Korbanth DV6 hilt is so rare to begin with. But if one day I ever did find another DV6 hilt, I might just convince myself to build a second one....but for now, "Skeleon" remains the world's one and only saber of its kind. Korbanth DV6, PCv2.0, LedEngin Red with Red Clash Flash, and a full length, fully removable G-Core.
